Request for file deletion: File:Lybia caestifera.png

Hello, I am the original uploader of File:Lybia caestifera.png and I would like to request its deletion.

Reason: The file may not comply with Wikimedia Commons' copyright policies, and I want to ensure proper licensing before re-uploading. Thank you for your assistance. GingerManBread (talk) 00:25, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@GingerManBread: Next time you can use: {{SD|G7}} for files that you have uploaded. Phương Linh (talk) 13:51, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And if that is hard to remember, there is Template:My bad upload. - Jmabel ! talk - 16:02, 17 March 2025
Or the much shorter {{G7}}.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 17:55, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That Vegan Teacher

Hi,

I just send a email to That Vegan Teacher for permission of uploading her photograph for the purpose of add a image to that Wikipedia article.

Previous there is a image of That Vegan Teacher in Commons that was removed due to copyvio

and I also tried to upload a nonfree image on English Wikipedia, that also will be remove tomorrow (see here)

and now I just send a email to That Vegan Teacher for permission.

so what next? If she said yes, should I upload to Commons and send to the permission email (e.g. permissions-commons@wikimedia.org)?

or others???

Thanks for reading and, for context, here this my email to That Vegan Teacher:

To: [redacted]

Dear the Vegan Teacher,

I'm DinhHuy2010 from Wikipedia.

I am editing the That Vegan Teacher (a.k.a. you) article, and I need a free image of your photograph for the purpose of usage of that Wikipedia article.

Can I have permission to upload your photograph to Wikimedia Commons?

If yes, then do this:

  • Reply to this email within 2 days.
  • Upload any photograph of you (high quality if possible)
  • Then after I upload the image to Commons, make sure to also send a email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using this email template from Commons:Email_templates (make sure to use exactly this TEMPLATE, or else will be ignored).

I will also post this mail to the Wikimedia Commons discussion page too.

Anyway, thank you for reading this email.

Thanks, DinhHuy2010

@DinhHuy2010: You would have done well to ask (or to read up on this) before sending the email. You kind of asked the wrong question. See Commons:Uploading works by a third party#If you need to obtain a license for copyrighted work. - Jmabel ! talk 19:29, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmabel, can you give me a TLDR of this..., then what next? DinhHuy2010 (talk) 06:32, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DinhHuy2010: Hi, and welcome. Please read and have them read VRT#If you are NOT the copyright holder.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:29, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone delete the second revision of this file?

Very sorry if this is the wrong place to ask! The second revision (and only the second revision) is a different photo that to my knowledge is not PD, representing a copyright issue. The actual Naval image is fine but someone briefly changed it in 2021, reverting themself a bit later, but the image is still there. Photo challenge - Newspapers

I came across Commons:Photo challenge/2025 - March- Newspapers via COM:VPC#Photo challenge - Newspapers: so, I decided to take a look at it. I think the concerns expressed by Christian Ferrer in their VPC post are valid, but I also get what Asclepias said. However, just looking at a few of the files already entered, I'm not so sure it's the best course of action to just rely on the user who created the project to police the entries to make sure they're OK for Commons. Some of the entires like File:Environmental awareness news article.jpg have been already been tagged with {{nsd}}, but they seem to be clear-cut copyright violations that have very little or zero chance of being sorted regardless of how much time the uploader is given. I get those uploading and entering files are doing so in good faith, but I'm not sure Commons should "wait [until the] end of challenge" like what was diplomatically queried by Christian Ferrer at Commons talk:Photo challenge. I don't such an approach would be wise since there's no telling how many files of questionable licensing would be uploaded by then. I'm not advocating that any of the file's uploaders or the user who started the contest be sanctioned in any way; I am, however, suggesting that the entries better monitored (preferrably by one or more administrators) and that the clear copyright violations be deleted per COM:F1 or COM:F3 asap. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:02, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: Copyvios can be tagged as such. The fact that a copyvio is submitted in a contest does not protect the file any more than when a copyvio is used in a Wikipedia page. Anyone can patrol and add tags, but my comment in VP/C was specially to notify the user who created the theme. -- Asclepias (talk) 23:16, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Marchjuly, it was me who tagged them with {{nsd}} or {{npd}}, I was thinking maybe I will give the uploader some time to rectify if they have permission to upload them (even though I agree with you that possibility is very small). Feel free to convert them to speedy as you see fit. Tvpuppy (talk) 23:28, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

all my files deleted ??

i mistakenly claimed historical media as own RyanRai11 (talk) 03:24, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

RyanRai11: Yes, they were deleted per Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by RyanRai11. You claimed them all as your own work, which isn't true. We need the actual source and author. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 06:45, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
i take those from various sources like pinterest and facebook RyanRai11 (talk) 08:30, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@RyanRai11: Do not do that, or you will be blocked. For all files you upload, you must provide a proper source, date, author, and license. Do not upload documents not under a free license or in the public domain. And before uploading anything else, please read COM:L. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:31, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for deletion: File:Observable_universe_logarithmic_illustration_2025.png

I uploaded this file but realized I am not the creator or owner of the image. It appears to be widely used online, but I do not have the rights to publish it on Wikimedia Commons. I request its deletion to comply with copyright policies.

Wiki loves parliaments email addresses

The domain of the email address in {{WIKI loves parliaments/European Parliament 2014}} appears to be inactive; the email address in {{Wiki loves parliaments/Parteitag CDU 2015}} is of a user who is globally locked. There are other templates in the same family. With what email address should they be updated, and does it need someone with translation-editor rights to do so? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:58, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Pigsonthewing: TA rights aren't needed in this case. Neither of the templates are protected, so you should be able to make the edit. signed, Aafi (talk) 00:19, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find any beneficial email-address, but the website at wikilovesparliaments.org seems like a fishbowl-wiki; nothing accessible without registration. Once again something that's out of the purview of Commons' admins. My personal thoughts are that the mention of email would be redundant, people could always ask at Help Desks about how to use. signed, Aafi (talk) 00:25, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just remove them. Bedivere (talk) 00:50, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've replaced the email link on the first template above with a link to the help desk. Because of the nested sub-templates and translations, I cannot do so on the second (and have not tried any others). It needs someone more familiar with such markup to do so. (since the "purview of Commons' admins" was mentioned, I'll explain that the reason I asked here first was the sensitivities around a global locked account). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:51, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I tried but it seems to need some more time. @Matrix: could you check with {{Wiki loves parliaments/base/layout}} and {{Wiki loves parliaments/base}} and make sure it displays the usage guidelines on {{Wiki loves parliaments/Parteitag CDU 2015}}. I don't know what I missed. signed, Aafi (talk) 14:28, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheAafi: I'm a bit confused on what is happening. Do you want to replace the email link with a link to the help desk? In that case the contact parameter could just be a simply yes/no switch. —Matrix(!) ping onewhen replying {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 20:11, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Matrix, you get it right. Email parameter needs to be changed. Link to Help desk should suffice. ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 21:27, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok ✓ Done now I'll just need to synchronise the translations. —Matrix(!) ping onewhen replying {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 18:45, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Stepro and Raymond: Could you please translate the bottom message at both Template:Wiki loves parliaments/base2/layout and Template:Wiki loves parliaments/base/layout? It's the same message. —Matrix(!) ping onewhen replying {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 18:52, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The changes destroyed the intended use of several templates. I have therefore reverted the changes. Please contact the parties involved before making such changes.
Reasons:
If the other templates need a change (in the case of O. K. certainly makes sense), please change them directly, without collateral damage. Stepro (talk) 19:02, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
